We are authors. Yep, we said it out loud. We have been dancing all around our 'book project' for the past two years, not wanting to draw attention to it for fear of having to explain 'this book that we wrote'. We were afraid of curiosity, failure and criticism. We were afraid to be vulnerable.
Authors write books, not two women who have thorns in their saddles because there is a shortage of quality books out there for grade school children. But necessity is the mother of invention and we decided to take matters into our own hands with clarity of values, we took a leap of faith and entered the arena. It was time to show up.
Instead of complaining about wimpy children in military underpants, we dreamed up characters that are good kids but who are human, and they make mistakes. And let's face it, many of their mistakes are downright hilarious. Reality is the best teacher, and much of what we write about comes from the crazy moments with our kids, our families, and the funny stories that happen when we are enjoying the ride.
Kids are smart. We are humbled by their perspective and what they teach us every day. It's out of respect for their wisdom and sense of humor that we started writing. We want our writing to be funny, because who doesn't like funny? We want it to be topical and we want to teach our readers a lesson without hitting them over the head with a 'moral of the story' in a preachy way. Laughter is the best medicine and humor is priceless.
We are authors. We are also tennis partners, green juicers and family women. We are moms. We are seekers of depth and perspective in our lives away from the soccer field and hockey rink, much of which is found over wine and laughter.
